A rainbow choir, including members of the LGBTI community, is to stage a ‘singing protest’ outside the World Meeting of Families today.

The group has planned a “peaceful gesture” which it says should not disturb those taking part in the event.

However, it wants to highlight the lack of LGBTI groups at the Catholic event.

One of the organisers of the choir is former TV3 political editor Ursula Halligan, who made headlines during the marriage equality referendum by speaking about her own struggle as a gay women.

“We believe that regardless of anyone’s beliefs or religion, the LGBTI voice cannot remain silent when a group in society, be it Church or State, refuses to respect and recognise the dignity and equality of LGBTI people,” she said.
